Ford's debut model of their breakthrough crossover may now be a decade old, but the 2007 Edge SEL Plus remains a highly-esteemed automobile with a bevy of inclusions that drive the competition wild with envy.
The forward-thinking exterior design notwithstanding, one of the true beauties of this SUV lies beneath the hood. Sure, the 265 horses of the V6 engine are a delight, but what’s really intriguing is the unique six-speed automatic transmission. The result of a Ford and GM collaboration, it works in conjunction with available AWD to offer some serious smarts. This system actually operates in front-wheel drive mode until it detects that additional traction is needed, at which point it automatically switches over to compensate for the tough terrain. Very cool!
There’s also a generous smattering of features on the SEL Plus that go above-and-beyond its contemporaries. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning is standard, as is lavish leather seat trim with front heated cushions for fall and winter weather. Also available is the massive panoramic sunroof, which even sports a second, fixed panel above the back row that spills in additional natural light.
