Ford Announces Expansion, Expects 700 New JobsFord Motor Company recently revealed a planned investment of $700 million to broaden the automaker's Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan and directly create 700 new jobs. The anticipated expansion will upgrade the plant into a factory that builds high-tech autonomous and electric vehicles, in conjunction with the Lincoln Continental and the Mustang

The plant expansion is only part of Ford's encompassing $4.5 billion investment in electrified vehicles by the year 2020. The automaker hopes to provide customers with improved fuel efficiency,
power and capability that spans the range of Ford's vehicle lineup, in addition to becoming both an auto and a mobility company that paves the way for electrified and autonomous vehicles and pioneering mobility solutions.

Ford's team hopes to pioneer the development of global electrified vehicles solutions and services, which include route planning, telematics
solutions and EV fleet management.

Jimmy Settles, the UAW vice president of the National Ford Department, said in a Ford release that “I am thrilled that we have been able to secure additional UAW-Ford jobs for American workers. The men and women of Flat Rock Assembly have shown a great commitment to manufacturing quality products, and we look forward to their continued success with a new generation of high-tech vehicles.”

The Flat Rock Assembly Plant is not the only plant in the news - Ford also plans to build the next-generation Focus at one of its plants in Hermosillo, Mexico, while the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan (where the Focus is currently manufactured) is on tap to use its newly allocated space to build out two all-new, iconic products.
