On the prowl for an engine that packs a punch? Look no further than Wards Auto's list of 10 best engines of 2017, which Autoguide.com recently published. This year's list highlighted three electrified drivetrains and seven turbocharged, emphasizing increased favoritism towards downsized powertrains with direct fuel injection and forced induction across the industry. One of the turbocharged engines on the podium? The 2.3L Turbocharged DOHC 4-cylinder, which shines in the 2017 Ford Focus RS.
Although the Blue Oval put up four brand-new powertrain contenders for the competition this year, the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine was deemed a cut above the rest. Its all-aluminum engine surpassed the Lincoln Continental's 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, the classic Ford F-150's 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and the Shelby GT350's 5.2-liter V8, providing 350 hp and a matching 350 lb-ft of torque. Compared to the 39 other powertrains tested for this year's list, Wards Auto said that "none was more exhilarating to drive than the Ford Focus RS."
