As the end of the year rapidly approaches, production of the highly anticipated 2017 Ford GT heralds a new beginning. Ford Performance recently commenced production at a low-volume facility in Markham, Ontario, Canada, where the halo car will roll off the assembly line and onto dealership lots in the near future. The GT was originally revealed at the North American International Auto Show in January 2015, so car enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting its production for nearly two years.

In celebration of the Ford GT's debut, Ford's executive vice president of global product development and chief technical officer, Raj Nair, drove a GT off of the assembly line to symbolize the milestone.

Watch the GT shine in the video below:

“When we kicked off 2016, we had two primary objectives for our Ford GT supercar – to excel at Le Mans, and to start deliveries before year-end,” Nair said in a Ford release. “We’ve achieved both.” He added, “For everyone involved in designing and developing this car, including all of our employees and suppliers, this is a moment to celebrate. The all-new Ford GT is a showcase of our strength in innovation and our commitment to delivering more for our customers – especially related to lightweight materials, aerodynamics and EcoBoost engine technologies.”
