Ford Motor Company released big news about one of their smaller SUVs to the public recently, sharing that a new EcoSport crossover will make its U.S. debut in the near future. This will mark the first time in the vehicle's history that it hits American streets, reflecting the upward trajectory of U.S. consumer buying habits that skews toward crossovers and SUVs.
The decision is a long time coming. Although the EcoSport was created 13 years ago, it's made its mark outside of the American markets. However, as fuel economy standards continued to get stricter and the interest in small crossovers increased over recent years, the idea of bringing the EcoSport to the U.S. became less of a 'what if' and more of a 'when?' To the delight of SUV enthusiasts, the Blue Oval also announced that four all-new SUVs will also roll out on a global scale over the next four years, paralleling the U.S. launch of the EcoSport. As of press time, the new EcoSport's manufacturing location is not yet determined. Check out some of Ford's current SUV models in the video below:
Ford's announcement also tapped into the younger buyer demographic by utilizing its Twitter account to break the news and recruiting popular hip-hop producer DJ Khaled to act as an ambassador for the new EcoSport. As stated on Freep.com, "Khaled will headline a three-day event called “Go Small. Live Big" that will include special appearances by a number of other music artists. Ford's event is the night before media events officially begin at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Tuesday."
Once the EcoSport makes its grand entrance, it'll be displayed at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which is slated to feature more than 50 new cars and trucks over the three-day show. Ford SUV drivers interested in taking a test drive may have to wait for the new EcoSport, but can take a spin in any of the SUVs currently in stock at Sound Ford in Seattle, Washington at any time.
