On the Ford shelf sits a series of trophies - all polished to a high shine, each promising exceptional performance. The 2018 Expedition has garnered countless awards, with critics and consumers alike celebrating its redesigned powertrain and ample eight-passenger frame. Recognitions have come from across the market.

None are more valued, however, than the recent five-star rating bestowed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

As Torque News explains, the 2018 Expedition has secured a bevy of awards - but Ford considers the Top Pick status from the NHTSA to be the most important. The Big Blue Oval was recently pitted against a slew of simulations, with its crossover experiencing frontal, rear, and side collisions. The impact of each crash was carefully measured at multiple speeds (including: 0 to 20 MPH, 40 to 60 MPH, and 60 to 80 MPH) to assess potential concerns with both the framework and the integrated technologies.

No concerns were found.

The new Expedition earned five stars from the NHTSA - with the organization praising both its reinforced chassis (military-grade aluminum-alloy was used to ensure improved strength, and the center of gravity was lowered by two inches to enhance stability and reduce body-roll) and advanced tech. Pre-collision assistance utilizes precise sensors to assess the surrounding environment, quickly identifying potential concerns and reducing speed to provide drivers with better response times. Automatic high-beams engage when visibility lessens, while cross-traffic alerts promote superior blind-spot monitoring through their wide lenses. Pedestrian detection capabilities further enhance performance, delivering radar scans and real-time notifications of approaching obstacles.

The 2018 Expedition was the only full-size SUV to receive a five-star rating - and we’re not surprised. To learn more about this platform contact our team today!
