Crossovers have conquered the Kirkland market. Down every highway they come - wide-fendered, high-roofed, and growling with each mile. Their popularity is assured and their sales are impressive. To challenge their supremacy would demand a car unlike any other.
Ford believes it has such a car - the 2018 Fiesta Active.
According to New Atlas, the Fiesta Active is a bold little hatchback that might sway consumers away from SUVs. Though currently only available in Europe, Ford is considering shipping this platform overseas - and critics are already celebrating.
Beneath the hood purrs a 1.0L inline-four engine, which yields a peppy 140 HP. EcoBoost technology assures maximum mileage, securing up to 56 MPGs on the highway; while active grille shutters pair with a sleek fascia to counter friction, allowing the platform to efficiently rev down every street. All-season tires promote ease, with their heavy treads transitioning from summer to winter; and LED headlamps deliver automatic high-beam engagements to counter low-visibility terrains.
To further delight drivers, the 2018 Fiesta boasts an expansive rear cabin - with approximately 30 cu.-ft offered. This marks a 10% improvement over its SE and ST predecessors, and it allows the platform to keep pace with hulking crossovers (storage woes are things of the past).
The new Fiesta delivers an everyday sensibility that proves impossible to deny - and it will make a worthy addition to the North American market. We have our fingers crossed that Ford will submit to public opinion and bring this hot hatch here.
