Middling performance defines the light-duty market - with engineers fusing pick-ups with weak engines and rattling suspensions. Drivers, they assume, need nothing more; and no power is spared for any compact platform.

The 2019 Ranger will change this.

According to The Drive, Ford isn’t content to embrace current industry standards - instead wishing to bolster its new Ranger with powerhouse performance. A 2.3L EcoBoost engine is, therefore, anticipated, promising up to 310 HP and 320 lb.-ft of torque! This four-cylinder option will pair natural aspiration with a potential turbocharger, generating the same capabilities as the Big Blue Oval’s other beloved platform: the Mustang.

This will allow the Ranger to easily best the competition - including the Chevrolet Colorado (181 HP) and the Toyota Tacoma (159 HP) - and should secure the interest of every Seattle driver. No longer will the compact market deliver pitiable responses. Instead Ford is shattering the segment, and critics expect a towing capacity of more than 7,000 pounds.

The Washington highways will never be the same.
