Ford Employee Innovations Reach All-Time High

(Posted on Oct 20, 2016 at 04:07PM )
Ford InnovationThere is nothing like working for a company that fosters and environment of creativity and encourages its employees to take a chance and be innovators. Ford Motor Company is one such business, and it shows clearly in the response of its employees.

There have been over 3,500 first time inventors at Ford since the beginning of 2015. In the first eight months of 2016 alone, approximately 1,700 Ford employees have submitted invention disclosures for the first time, with a total of more 4,500 submissions for the year over all. Last year ended with 6,000 disclosure submissions, and the expectation is that 2016 will top that record.

“The significant increase in first-time inventors is a result of our push to drive innovation in all parts of our business,” says Raj Nair, Ford’s executive vice president of product development and chief technical officers. “At the same time, we’ve ramped up global innovation challenges, where we seek new ideas company-wide and then, coupled with input from employees, see how can further those ideas.”

The annual Further with Ford trends conference in September of 2016 highlighted some of these innovations, including a system for giving passengers in a ride-share vehicle control of an infotainment screen and a short-distance transportation device for where vehicles aren’t available.
