Ford Transit Van seattle washingtonIn late September of this year, Ford Motor Company donated a customized Ford Transit van to The Salvation Army in Kansas City, Missouri, in order to help the organization provide food, clothing, temporary shelter and more to the local community.

Major David Harvey, divisional secretary for The Salvation Army in Kansas and Western Missouri said it is a game-changer. “Today they are giving back to the citizens of Kansas City and we thank them for this wonderful gift,” he says, according to the Ford Motor Company Media Center.

Adding the vehicle to the organization’s disaster relief fleet, the local Salvation Army chapter will be able to move through tighter spaces with needed supplies for community members, giving them a better respond time and ability in emergencies. It will also be used to feed the homeless in the community on a regular basis.

Ford is working hard to extend its hand to as many community services across the country as possible. Their Disaster Relief Mobility Challenge earlier this year helped to bring in ideas from local charity groups on how transportation needs can be better served throughout the community, giving Ford the opportunity to research and develop more innovation in this sector.
