Used Ford Mustang
Throughout the history of automotives there have been many defining moments - from the creation of the Benz Patent-Motorwagen (the world’s first car) to the launch of autonomous vehicles in the 1980s. There’s been a constant series of innovations.
Few, however, prove as important - or as exciting - as the Ford Mustang.
History
In 1964 Ford sought to redefine the North American auto scene, injecting it with high speeds and family-style seating. Vice President Lee Iacocca wanted to create a new type of car (one free from the style restraints of European models) and to do this he began pulling parts from the company’s then-popular Falcon, as well as working feverishly on his own designs.
The result - when revealed at the 1964 New York World’s Far - was a floor-mounted, short-reared, scooped-hooded coupe. It delivered a four-passenger configuration and F1-inspired performance, with its light weight allowing it to effortlessly dominate even the tightest curves. It was called the Mustang.
Since that time the Mustang (which created its own automobile class, with critics dubbing it the ‘pony-car’) has become an undeniable presence on the roads. Its distinctive shape - refined throughout the years, with Ford introducing spoilers, decklids, and more - makes it instantly recognizable; and its four-cylinder engines deliver power and performance.
Through six generations Ford has led both the sport-tuned coupe and convertible markets - and it will continue to lead them for many generations to come.
Notable Features
The Mustang boasts a history of precision, with Ford constantly fusing it with new technologies, suspensions, and engine blocks. Among these innovations are:
The Pony-Car Shape
Before the Mustang arrived, convertibles featured a specific shape: long-decked and square-hooded, with even their open-carriage platforms unable to distract from the rigid lines. Ford changed this, creating a new style. Its pony-car delivered a sporty, dynamic design and it inspired its own category.
Customization
Adaptability has forever been the cornerstone of the Mustang, with Ford offering drivers the chance to choose every detail: from engine options to interior materials, colors to drivetrains. The ability to customize separates the car from its competitors.
EcoBoost Technology
In 2009 Ford launched its EcoBoost platform, connecting drivers to enhanced efficiency and reduced emissions - with every drop of fuel maximized to its fullest. This engine seems an unlikely addition to a convertible (where concerns for speed and cornering reign supreme). The 2015 Mustang, however, fused its V8 power with EcoBoost performance, creating a new standard of economy.
Awards
For more than five decades, the Ford Mustang has made its way to countless award podiums, earning much acclaim from critics and drivers alike. Some of its recognitions include:
The Tiffany Gold Medal of Excellence: 1964
Motortrend’s Car of the Year: 1974 Car and Driver’s Best Car: 1983 Motortrend’s Car of the Year: 1994
Canadian Car of the Tear: 2005
Vincentric Car of the Year: 2015 Motorweek’s Car of the Year: 2015
Few performance models boast the pedigree - or the fun - of the Mustang. It’s revved its way to the top of every sales chart and dealer lot.
